UX Design
Usability is the foundation of design. At its core, design should facilitate the most organic and unobtrusive connection with its viewer. Effective designers are intuitive, anticipating the goals and expectations of a specific audience. In fact, design is perhaps the most effective element toward a productive interactive experience.
As a User Experience Designer, my job is to advocate for the User. This means understanding and appreciating the process a typical user can expect to encounter with a given task. I look for ease of use, how pleasant functions are, and if all the features that are needed are included and unnecessary features removed. It's a collaborative design process that involves constant refinement and input from as many sources as possible, a process I love to undertake.
The five 'E's' of good design:
- 1. Effective: The level a user achieves against tasks.
- 2. Efficient: The time it takes to achieve goals toward a desired standard.
- 3. Engaging: The quality of a user experience.
- 4. Error Tolerance: The design prevents errors and easily enables correcting mistakes.
- 5. Easy to Learn: The design is easy to navigate, interact with, function, and gain understanding of capabilities.
My job is to achieve this connection between the products I work on and their users. Check out some on my design work to see my process.
